I have paid $30.00 for 200 square feet of garden space at Avery Park, Community Gardens, Corvallis, Oregon. Its location is in the Marys River flood plain, which leaves the gardens nutrient rich clay loam soil. Dont know the exact year, but the gardens have been around a very long time, which the garden plots are loose deep, which is great for tuber crops. This video is a timely progression of the changes and events happening at my garden plot. From my initial planting to harvest, I will tell the plantings and show its final bearing. Recently, I purchased a Rebel T3i, and needed an idea to practice video techniques, and this was the idea. Hopefully throughout this series, the video quality improves, which initially, I would think video issues would arise -- maybe not? I will try to apply different shooting techniques. First video shows the planting of tomatoes. Technique: I noticed that the Rebel shoots 2 - 10 photos continuously, with a 2 second intervals between shots. I thought mixing video with 2 second interval shots trying to make something interesting. In post, I laid a single track of ambient sound. I noticed if there wasnt a smooth audio form clip to clip, the video appeared broken or the web connection has slowed . My audio recorder is bad, so the audio in this vido needs work. Affirming, this for my learning benefit and for you, which I would appreciate candid comments.

www.youtube.com incompetech.com Please support this channel. Thanks! A beginning of a new series on gardening. Turning over the soil and roughing in the garden rows and raised beds. Its been 4 years since I gardened, so if you have any tips please share them. I can use all the help I can get. I made a few mistakes already and it has or will cost me time and labor. But, I have plenty of time and gardening is a labor of love. I enjoy it very much. This garden is roughly 25 by 50 feet, or 1250 square feet, 25 x 50 = 1250. I paced it off using the ancient Roman pace method of measurement. A pace is two steps, my garden is 5 by 10 paces, or 50 square paces. Too much information? Walking a known distance and counting your paces will give you a fairly accurate way of determining distance without a scale or other measuring device. A pace for me is roughly 5 foot 6 inches, and makes doing long measurements fairly easy, although not exact. But, I can vary my paces to be between 5 and 6 feet. Pace counting and measurement serves a wide variety of purposes that are not all related to hiking and military use. I count paces for a variety of work related things, running pipe, measuring containers, etc. its quite useful for gardening as it allows a quick way to lay out the garden, plan straight rows, and properly space plants. all you have to do is walk and count at the same time. :) According to a neighboring gardener, the soil is too alkaline, ph is 7.6 or so , he recommended adding ...

Welcome to Kookaburra Hill - Spring Creek QLD
Time to mulch down the yard before it gets to overgrown. The undisturbed areas & low ground still grow in the best, Everything that has been filled in only has thin layer of top soil so I end up with mostly weeds. Hope to get another layer of top soil down this year. The fill, gradeing, loam, derocking, seeding, stone walls, & tree pits took well over 2000 hours to complete by myself. No landscaper or contractor involved. The only cost involved was for seed, fertalizer, and tractor repairs. All fill, rocks, loam, plants & trees were obtained for free. Some trees & plants were existing, moved to be salvaged & devided/split many times. (this year I started purchasing new plant additions)Unfortunately I did have to cut down several apple, peach & nut trees and lost many other plants when I filled the property as they were in the way and were too much work to salvage. This is my 2nd year on the landscape project.

The thought of pouring over seed catalogs in January, snipping fresh romaine, and getting my hands dirty ... soil caked under my nails ... is a thrill. I love to be self-sustaining as much as I can. But a roll-over car accident in 2000 almost ended this joy when I hurt my back and neck and couldnt bend or kneel like I used to. There are times when the last thing I want to do is bend over and kneel to pull weeds or even pick tomatoes. It hurts just to look at the garden when its overgrown and uncared for. Weeds can take over so quickly that in just a few days my flowerbeds go from looking lush and gorgeous to a field gone to seed. Since my accidents, my low back and neck sometimes lock up on me and make it impossible to work in the garden. But Im a stubborn German just like my father. So stubborn, in fact, that not long after the second car accident, I snuck my mother-in-laws claw gripper the one she uses to get cans off high shelves out into the garden in hopes of weeding and caring for my flower beds. I thought if I didnt bend (too much) I could still keep the garden looking nice. Dreams are good, arent theyb But I couldnt get the claw part to hang on to the weeds long enough. Skyclad - Think Back and Lie of England (onscreen lyrics)
This ornamental rhubarb is a very striking garden plant for your garden. The huge palmate leaves of this variety start off crimson/purple and change to dark green with the amazing plum under sides. Tall flowers spikes up to 6ft (1.8m) with pink-crimson star shaped flowers will emerge from the centre of the plant later in the summer. They like sun to part shade in a fertile humus rich loam soil preferably moist. They look great near water but not with their feet in the water, that is just too wet for them. Mulch them in spring with compost or well rotted manure as they are a hungry plant. Cut back old flower stems and leaves in autumn as they die back. Divide the plants in spring or try sowing seeds if you are patient. Please Note this plant is poisonous.
